Hi everyone,

To start, we will setup a wiki for Everything Open. I will not give a timeframe other than it will be available prior to the conference starting.

I need to address the other parts of this thread. First, while the email from Russell may have been a simple question, it was once again written in a manner that comes across as demanding. Kathy’s response did not help either, as it just inflames a situation and does not solve it. I’d ask both to consider this for their future correspondence to our mailing lists.

One of the aspects of our community that irritates me the most are the emails and other posts that we receive that expect things to be done. I want to make it clear that not every request that comes through will be actioned. Conference teams and the Linux Australia Council evaluate the requests and then make decisions based on the circumstances, especially taking into consideration our ability to support it. While we may be setting up a wiki this time, the demand for it is actually very low, contrary to what some vocal people would make it appear.

Setting up and running software might seem simple given many of us do this on a daily basis. However, people need to remember that for a volunteer organisation such as ours there is a lot more to consider, such as the ongoing additional admin tasks and moderator work. As much as people volunteer to do some of this work, the reality is that most people stay for a short time and then step away (including those who repeatedly volunteer to assist), leaving the work to the same small group who already have limited time to dedicate to this work. We therefore only run those services we deem absolutely necessary to support the activities we put on, which will not be every possible service that people would like to see.

Kind regards,

Joel Addison
