One thing I think that is lacking in this discussion is whether any of
the other players (AUUG for example) would even be interested in Linux
Australia representing them.  I would suggest most of the 'old school'
Unix people don't consider Linux to be Unix at all (some see it as not
even Unix-like).  I don't see many of them liking the idea of merging
with the penguin upstarts.

Then there is the issue of commercial versus open source - many Unix
derivatives aren't open source - they are commercial, proprietary
operating systems (HP UX, AIX/pSeries, etc, etc).  Do we represent those
AUUG member's interests too?

Overall, do we really have that many interests in common?  In a broader
sense, I think there is merit in expanding the remit of LA but I suspect
AUUG are not an ideal candidate for that expansion.
