I think that just about sums it up, pity about the headline.

A better way of looking at this is Linux preinstalled vs bare rather than 
Linux vs MS-Windows preinstalled. It's not as if MS-Windows comes grafted to 
the hardware (yet). Every machine which retains Linux is one more illegal 
copy which didn't happen, and one more user getting used to an alternative 
which won't cause them legal or social trouble in the long run.

The study apparently also fails to cater for the large number of PCs which 
ship with MS-Windows as part of the bundle, but on which MS-Windows is never 
used.

Thank you for that closing remark, very few journalists are yet willing to 
break with the tone of the original release at all.
