Looking at the Fedora GCompris packages, it seems like a sound package for each 
language might be necessary. Does anyone know what is in these packages? 
 
What about fonts? Among the Central Australian languages, Warlpiri and Arandic 
languages can get by with the English alphabet. 
The Western Desert languages (Luritja, Pitjantjatjara and several others) however 
use underscores for some letters, so is a custom font required? If so, is anyone 
"ninti" (cluey) for font technology? Also, there are 3 slightly different 
versions of Western Desert orthography (one each for NT, WA and SA). 
Yolngu in the Top End has at least one character (n+g) that can't be handled by 
the English alphabet. 
 
I still know almost nothing about GCompris, but I see that both XML and .po files 
are involved. These don't require Python or C programming and can be worked with 
using any text editor. It *may* be possible to translate existing GCompris 
content, if appropriate, into indigenous languages without actually writing any 
code, given the necessary audio and fonts.  
 
I'm up for supporting a GCompris project with looking into sound files, fonts and 
RPM packaging. I'll get GCompris installed on my Fedora 12 laptop and have a look 
before the next meeting.

Fedora mirror under Everything and can be installed quickly and easily  with yum.
