Grant Application from Jonah Sullivan for Canberra Python User Group
Your Email Address: geosull at pm.me
Project name: Canberra Python User Group
Grant Type: Community Grant
Aim of the project:
The Canberra Python User Group (CPUG) has been a leader in Canberra’s
technology and innovation culture since 2011, in that time we’ve grown
to over 1,000 members; representing one of largest technical communities
of any kind in Oceania.
Our primary organising tool is MeetUp, where we manage our members'
mailing list and organise events.

There is a free and public event each month held at the Australian
National University's Hannah Neumann mathematics building. Events
attract hundreds of engineers, developers, data professionals and
scientists every year in a developer-oriented and supportive
environment.
The meeting each month includes a formal long-term presentation by a
local practitioner, followed by an informal social get-together where
attendees can meet with like-minded people to test ideas and
collaborate.
We are grass-roots and volunteer-run: volunteers schedule speakers and
events. Grant funds are used to ensure the events are attractive and
accessible by offering light refreshments.
Estimated cost breakdown of the project: AUD$1,500 for catering.
This will provide funding for approximately 10 meetings with 20-30
attendees per meeting.
