My point wasn't to offer my time to take over the admin of the mailing
lists (I have no time for that; also I am not one of the people upset at
what happened - as such the chances of me making a similar mistakes are
not zero).

Rather it was: if somebody does volunteer to do something, but stuffs in
doing so, try to be gentle with your feedback.

Otherwise you will have no volunteers because everyone is afraid of
stuffing up and getting harshly criticised.

While some of the criticism I have seen here may have been warranted and
maybe even constructive, other criticism seemed to be way over the top
and somewhat destructive.

I note that the president of Linux Australia - Joel Addison
<joel at addison.net.au> - has asked in another post to refrain from
discussing this topic further - but I thought this was an important
point to clarify.
