[Linux-aus] EO2024 videos

Hi Russell and Paul,

As you probably have seen in the Everything Open matrix channel, I have
said that I am working through the videos and aim to have them all
published before the next event starts. This means I have a few days to get
through them all, which I'm continuing to do while I'm on holidays.

I'm not sure it has been radio silence Paul. When people have asked me I
have responded clearly saying that I am working on them, and I have given a
date I aim to get them done by. I understand people want them immediately,
however this was not practical given how AV was run in Gladstone and
therefore it has taken longer to process them all.

What is Linux Australia doing for the next event? Well I am taking the lead
on the AV and have been spending time getting the video processing pipeline
into a state that we can once again do the video capture and processing in
a fast turnaround. The time I spend on this means I spend less time doing
the manual processing of the past event, hence the delay. I also have other
Linux Australia work and my day job to complete, so as it turns out I
haven't had as much time as I expected to complete everything.

If you would like more background, here it is. Linux Australia decided to
bring video processing back to a volunteer run process for Everything Open
in 2024, primarily due to budget reasons. Video services were taking up a
large portion of our expenses, second only to the venue itself for the past
several years. If we want to continue operating the conference, we need to
bring the budget into shape to reflect the realities of what we are
operating within. The way this played out for Gladstone was not as good as
it could have been due to some confusion between some people, but we got
through this and streamed the event and captured a majority of the
presentations (unfortunately there are some talks that can't be released
due to issues with capture, which we can't do anything about). The video
processing pipeline we have used for many years is in need of an upgrade to
just get a deploy working, which has been my immediate focus for 2025. I
have heard talk of there being upgrades done on this pipeline, however they
are not in the GitHub repository, so I am starting from scratch. Come the
conference in Adelaide I will be using this pipeline to process the videos,
which will again let us have a fast turnaround, from a volunteer effort.

Thanks,
Joel
