One issue with Passkey on mobiles is that they require a minimum version of iOS (16) or Android (9), and for Android the hardware support must also be there.
I have an Android 12 which can't do it.

On laptops/desktops, USB hardware keys (FIDO2) are by far the best way as they avoid all the messy bits.

For older TOTP, I do agree that heading yet another app to Google or Microsoft authenticator is daft. Suncorp also has its VIP Access app and then there's Salesforce authenticator. And so on...
