Members,

The Linux Australia Council meeting minutes are published at:
http://wiki.linux.org.au/Ctte/MeetingNotes20080731

and are included below:

== Council meeting ==
 * Time: 21:00 EAST, Thursday, 2008/07/31
 * Where: Linux Australia teleconference, and #LACTTE IRC channel
 * Attendees: Stewart Smith, Paul Schulz, Steve Walsh, Melissa Draper,
Terry Dawson, James Turnbull (by proxy).

== Notes ==

Starred ( {*} ) items are expected to require discussion at the meeting.
Un-starred items will be taken as noted or carried without further
discussion, unless starred at the beginning of the meeting.

 0. {*} Are there any items to star?

 1. Accept minutes of MeetingNotes20080626

 2. {*} Grant Request: Partial Akademy speaker travel, Ben Martin
  Ben Martin made a grant request in
http://lists.linux.org.au/pipermail/linux-aus/2008-July/016986.html for
partial coverage of speaker travel to attend Akademy 2008.

  In an email to the council Ben elaborated on the request detailing the
request as being for 20% of travel costs:
   * Ticket: 2160 Euro =~ $3545au
   * Accom:   424 Euro =~ $ 696au
   * Total:            =~ $4241au / 5 = $848.20

   MOTION: '''That Linux Australia approve the funding of 20% of Ben
Martin's costs to attend Akademy 2008 as per his proposal.'''

    * '''DECLINED'''': The council still doesn't see the community
benefit arising from funding.
    * AP2008073101: Steve Walsh will respond directly to Ben.

 3. {*} Final decision on Paul Wayper's Software Freedom Day CD Grant
Request
  In http://wiki.linux.org.au/Ctte/MeetingNotes20080619 Council declined
Paul Wayper's grant request. Apparently this hasn't been communicated to
Paul and is still an open issue.

  Paul Wayper's original proposal for sponsorship of CD production for
Software Freedom Day appeared in
http://lists.linux.org.au/pipermail/linux-aus/2008-June/016891.html
  The proposal is that Linux Australia cover the expense of producing
sufficient CD copies for Software Freedom Day in Australia and
potentially New Zealand.

   Motion: '''That Linux Australia provide sponsorship as detailed in
Paul Wayper's request.'''

   * '''DECLINED''': on the basis that our decision made in
MeetingNotes20080626 stands, we are prepared to seriously consider a
concrete proposal with specific LUG requirements, and a $5000 limit.
   * AP2008073102: Stewart Smith will respond to Paul directly.

== General Business ==
 * General discussion about LUGs regarding incorporation, LA memberhip,
and speaker travel. Re-assertion of council support for these
initiatives and agreement to represent these back to next LUG-Comms.
  * AP: 2008073102: Stewart Smith and Paul Schulz will attend next
LUG-Comms.

== Finish ==
Closed: 21:30
