In my experience "Affiliate Members" are people who do not qualify as
"Ordinary Members". Examples: a member of a yacht club who does not
own a yacht; a member of a sporting club only interested in the social
side of the club activities; member of a university department employed
by another organisation but involved in the research or teaching of the
department.

The terminology "Sustaining Members" is used by some organisations as
a class of membership for corporations where the annual subscription is
often quite large compared to that for Ordinary Members but where that
membership brings with it some benefit to the corporation, such as
mention on web sites and/or in publications and/or at meeting sessions,
and possible use of the society mailing list.

cheers

Dave
