I disagree, though I'd suggest that we survey the attendees again this
year as to what they think of the timing of the conference.

There are people for whom January is much more convenient than later
in the year and vice versa. For example January can be inconvenient
for many people who have other travel or financial commitments near
Christmas/New Year.  LCA in January often (accidentally) clashed with
LinuxWorld NY which meant some people couldn't attend.

Moving the conference around a bit from year to year allows different
people to attend. And so far we certainly don't appear to have had any
problems attracting attendees to this year's conference in April.

As long as the timing is announced a year in advance I don't see a
problem with it changing from year to year.
