MEDIA RELEASE

linux.conf.au announces IBM as the premiere "Tux" sponsor and opens for
2005 registrations

Organisers of linux.conf.au (LCA), Australia's annual conference on the
Linux operating system and Open Source topics, have announced IBM as the
premiere "Tux" sponsor for the 2005 LCA event and have officially opened
for conference registrations.

LCA 2005 will be held at The Australian National University in Canberra
from Monday 18 April to Saturday 23 April, 2005.

In its sixth year running, LCA offers a strong technical focus and is
one of three major international grass-roots open-source conferences
(having established itself alongside the Ottawa Linux Symposium and the
Linux Kongress). The event largely focuses on keynotes, seminars and
tutorials by Linux and open source developers and users.

Hugh Blemings, Manager of the OzLabs team at IBM's Linux Technology
Centre said, "IBM continues to actively support Linux and the open
source community, and is delighted to be involved in LCA for the fourth
year running.

"IBM's commitment to Linux goes beyond its support of LCA 2005. It
incorporates initiatives such as IBM eServer OpenPower, which the team
is particularly passionate about given their responsibility within IBM
and the broader Linux kernel community for enabling the Linux kernel on
the POWER platform.

"IBM's work with Linux has also seen it play an important role in
accelerating customers' transformation into on demand businesses that
have the speed, flexibility and resilience required to respond to market
changes."

Chair of the LCA 2005 organising committee Steven Hanley said, "Once
again we're very excited to have IBM onboard, it's great they continue
to support the community in this way."

Highlights of the 2005 event will include presentations from Eben Moglen
(General Counsel for the Free Software Foundation), Rasmus Lerdorf
(author of PHP), Robert Love (kernel developer), Andrew Morton (kernel
maintainer) and Andrew Tridgell (primary author of Samba). The full
programme for the conference will be announced on February 18th.

"I'm very excited about the strength of the programme this year. We have
excellent invited speakers, and the response to our call for papers was
fantastic," said Mr Hanley.

The LCA call for papers attracted 150 paper and tutorial submissions,
allowing only those of a very high quality to be accepted.
