He is looking at the price of related items which could be bought if the 
money hadn't been spent on Microsoft.

However, the really big advantages for schools have less to do with 
up-front price and more to do with accessibility, ancilliary costs 
(think virus cleanups) and less tangible stuff like the larning value 
in being able to dissect or change a program.
