[Linux-aus] Media Officer Now

Errrhmmm,

We seem to be creeping to the edge of this topic.

Pushing FOSS in schools is very important, but I was hoping that we
might discuss the position of a Media Officer.

Hence the subject: Media Officer Now.

Certainly some of the media decisions will have to be done swiftly & in
private, depending on the circumstance, but that position needs to
reflect and be very sensitive to the community. They need to be one of
the community.

I'm inclined to think that it needs to be a new position on the LA executive.

And the whole MyDoom fluff-fest is proof that we (the Linux/FOSS
community) are not appropriately organised relative to mainstream media
to respond swiftly & on topic to particular public concerns.

But please also remember, 80% of the Media Officer's tasks will involve
lots of quiet communication with mainstream media, just as Leon
suggested; Enough so as not to be forgotten, but not too much to be annoying.

This by implication means that it will be a daily endeavour with
different entities in the mainstream media.

Could we discuss the position of Media Officer please.

Cheers,
Marco
