[Linux-aus] Organisations moving to Linux

The problem may not actually be that it is too costly to move to linux. It
may actually be too costly to move to anything else. Additionally, upgrades
to software at the same time as upgrading the OS may have other hidden
costs. The problem is that if a company is using say version 1 of a product
on windows and they need to upgrade to version 2 then you might suggest
that they go to Linux at that time for example, because they already have
to retest everything. However, you generally find that enterprises such as
City Councils, have other ancilliary systems that hang off most of their
enterprise systems, which may also require rewriting or changing if the
enterprise server O/S changes.

The way that it generally happens is that either a new product is installed
and the choice of Linux is offered, the product is no longer available on a
particular platform (such as Oracle 9 and SGI Irix), or the ancilliary
systems themselves start getting replaced with linux as they are rewritten.

Summing up, it not necessarily the 'cost of linux' that is the problem,
rather than the 'cost of change'.

Hello, all.

Is there a respository, that lists organisations (governments,
government departments, and commercial organisations like corporations),
that have moved, or, are moving, to Linux?

According to my city council, it is too expensive to move to Linux (one
of their reasons), and I want to be able to say "here, look, all these
organisations are moving to Linux, or, have moved to Linux", and I am
looking for a resource, that lists that information (and possibly with
links to news articles eg; "Amazon moves to Linux to cut costs", Air
New Zealand moves to Linux in cost cutting exercise", etc).

Thanks in anticipation.
