[Lias] School administration - please advice

I am setting up a small training school in Sydney. I would like to setup administration and web site on Linux and other Open Source software. Teaching itself does not require computer systems.

In simple terms, apart from general office functionality, the 3 main requirements are:

1) CRM system for front office administration to keep track of students records and enquiries. There is no e-learning, attendance or scoring involved, just very basic school administration with some secretary duties as well for general enquiries.

2) Project Management system for planning, scheduling, equipment tracking, resources and costs management. Following the School syllabus, the Head of Resources has to procure loan equipment from suppliers, combine it with tutor's own schedule and produce a weekly schedule for 6 classes.

3) Fund Accounting system. I have been looking at RDA's Xpert and MicroBUDGET-GUI. Has anyone got any experience on them?

These 3 packages probably require to exchange some data among them.

Lacking Linux experience myself, I am having problems to find my way among a labyrinth of software. I will hire a developer to "assemble" software and setup the system. My next step will be to put an ad on the job list.

What do other schools use? What is your personal experience?
Your advice is greatly appreciated.
I thank you in advance,

Gianluca
