ok ok ok,
i redid the steps with and without mounting the hd in /mnt/auto/hda2.
the first time i did exactly as written with:
"mkdir /new/tmp"
then it says "mkdir: cannot create directory '/new/tmp' : no such file or
directory"
so i figured id have to make /new first and so i do 'mkdir /new' it works!
then i proceeed with
'mkdir /new/proc'
'mkdir /new/sys'
'chmod 777 /new/tmp'
those last 3 commands work fine no problems.
i then do,
'mv /boot /boot.old'
'ln -s /new/boot /boot'
so far so good,...
now for the final command :
'lilo -C /new/etc/lilo.conf"
i get : "/new/etc/lilo.conf: no such file or directory".
i tried creating a /new/etc then doing the command "lilo -C
/new/etc/lilo.conf" - still the same error
so then i did 'cp /etc/lilo.conf /new/etc/' and then again tried "lilo -C
/new/etc/lilo.conf" and i was told
"unrecognized token "! please edit lilo.conf before running lilo!" at or
above line 20 in file /new/etc/lilo.conf"
so then i 'vi'd' into /new/etc/lilo.conf deleted the : "! please edit
lilo.conf before running lilo!" and the 'remove this line when you are done
configuring" saved the changes all good,...
then i tried the command once more 'lilo -C /new/etc/lilo.conf' and now i
get : "Fatal: creat /boot/map~: no such file or directory"
!!!!!
thx for your reply
