Hi all,

Here is a tip for people considering buying printers for their computers.

BTW: I saw at BIG W in Highpoint that they were still selling the older Canon BJC1000sp. Please note that recent Canon's - in the main part - will not work under linux (yet). 

I recommend the Epsom C41UX/SX - as it comes with both a black and a color cartridge. I saw it in Big W the other day for $128.If you shop around you may get it cheaper.

You might recall my email re stories about printer experiences...

Below is a list of printers (from CAI-VIC Printer Information Document -
currently under editorial revision) that CAI-Vic supports and recommends
people receiving our systems purchase.

_Supported Printers for GNU/Linux_

_Newer Models_ (In most stores / tech shops / at the swap meets)

Epson Stylus C61 -around $208* Retailers across Melbourne and Australia
Epson Stylus C41UX or C41SX - around  $128* Retailers across Melbourne and
Australia (U = USB connection S = parallel port)
HP Deskjet 3820 - around $188* Retailers across Melbourne and Australia
Epson Stylus 480 - around $80* Retailers across Melbourne and Australia (this
is hard to find and is an older model)

* The prices are DickSmith Prices - so they are fairly high - the printers
could be picked up cheaper elsewhere and when on special.

_Older Model Printers_

Canon BJC 1000sp / 2100sp- Second hand dealers and computer swap meets
Hewlett Packard Deskjet 610C - Second hand dealers and computer swap meets

All of the printers above are listed as perfectly supported at
www.linuxprinting.org
