[Taslug] Hobart July ESP8266 Internet Of Things Hackfest!

Just a reminder, this week is TasLUG on WEDNESDAY the 20th July, not
thursday, and it's at HOBART HACKERSPACE not our usual haunt of hotel
soho.

Looks like we have 10 of us who are going to turn up and hack around
with the ESP8266. I've got enough NodeMCU's for everybody who emailed
me. Sorry if you didn't get a personal reply from me, it might have gone
straight to spam since I've been moving my mail server to a new IP this
month so there has been some downtime.

Looks like the Bunnings price for the remote power points was part of a
stock clearance. They don't carry those Arlec ones anymore, so I got the
next cheapest from EBay. Unfortunately this means that instead of $27
they are $35. However we've found we won't need to use relays and
instead we'll be using a quad bilateral switch, which pretty much
cancels out the price difference.

Anyway, I look forward to this Wednesday evening's activities. For those
that are coming you will need:

- Micro-USB cable (I have a few spares but not enough to go around).

- Laptop

- Optional phone with wifi hotspot

Because it's a microcontroller, you can code logic so that power is applied when a certain temperature is reached, or a certain light level is present etc. The options really are endless.

Following on from that there will be an all in session where everybody assembles the kit of supplied parts into a working prototype. The cost is going to be about $50, payment being cash on the night.
