== LUGS ==
=== BLUG ===
Web: blug.asn.au
Ballarat Linux Users Group: BLUG has a monthly meeting, usually with about 10 regulars in attendance. We're closely linked to the University and tend to get more in attendance when the students are around. Currently we have about 40 members signed up. BLUG meetings are monthly, held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (A week after LUVs)
=== CLUG ===
* Canberra Linux Users Group has its main meeting on the fourth Thursday of the month, and its Programming SIG meeting on the second Thursday.
* The main meeting is at the ANU in CS101, and the PSIG meets at the training room of Looking Glass Solutions in Civic.
* Pizza is usually the food of choice for the former, but now that Woodstock is closed down the latter is going to have to find a new preferred venue.
* Chris Smart (chris at kororaa.org) organises the main meetings, Paul Wayper (paulway at mabula.net) organises the PSIG meetings.
* Website: http://www.clug.org.au; http://clug.andrew.net.au for meeting details.
=== LUV ===
Linux Users of Victoria: LUV meets on the first tuesday of the month. We get in between 45 and 55 people to each meeting and have 500-odd members (as defined by the current constitution, which is missing. LUV runs general lists and some sig lists for the members. Normally italian dinner after meetings. http://luv.asn.au/
=== Kslug ===

=== LinuxSA ===
Web: http://www.linuxsa.org.au/
Coordinator: Geoffrey Bennett
Meets on the third tuesday each month and eats pizza after.
=== PLUG ===
?
=== Humbug ===
Web: humbug.org.au
An old time unix group based in Brisbane
proper constitution, elected executive
~120 members, ~40 members per fortnightly meetings
=== SLUG ===
Sydney Linux Users Group: SLUG meets on the last friday of the month. We get maybe 40-80 people. It tends to fluctuate depending on time of year and who's speaking
== Software Freedom Day ==
=== What worked ===
* Swap meets
* Balloons
* Having computers to demo
* Being positive and friendly and not criticising other OSes.
* Having a large selections of local UGs displaying their stuff
==== Mawson Lakes, Adelaide ====
Good:
* Event was held in a room at the local library. Tied in with Library opening hours.
* Week before had FOSS book display. Gave the Library a book list and they were happy to set it up.
* Display also used large inflatable penguin :-)
* Had computers on the day with demo's.
* Was held in conjunction with AirStream Community Wireless Network.
Bad:
* Could/should have been much better promoted, in local schools and community newsletters and papers.
* Relied on passing traffic.
==== Canberra ====
* We usually hand out CDs, demonstrate software and talk to people at the local Computer Fair.
== Regional Delegates Program ==
This program has been implemented in various ways over the years, but hasn't been run since LCA'05 (check this).
The aim of the program is to send one or more people who would normally not be able to go to Linux.Conf.Au and give them an opportunity to participate.
Examples of suitable people:
* Local community Linux advocate
* Someone who is unable to afford to go to Linux.Conf.Au but would benefit from the experience.
* Local FOSS developer who might doesn't 'get out much'.
In the past:
* A delegates was chosen from each State by key memebers of the local Linux/FOSS user group.
* Sun used to sponsor this but pulled out over apparent conflicts of intent.
Suggested methods:
* Local LUGs promote the program, and help suitable applicants prepare a submission.
(Suggested) Sponsorship Package
* Provide airfares and accomodation for 12 people to Linux.Conf.Au 09 in Hobart ~ $15k ?
Should this include 2 delegates from NZ as well? North and South Island? Australasia? PNG?
Australia - 8, NZ -2, PNG -1 plus extra special bonus 1.
Fights from PNG might be excessive - they certainly will be on local wages.
Tricky, worth looking into though. :-)
Karl Goetz has done some work there, he may have contacts. Possibly Lev Lafayette in Melbourne too.
I'll ask him.
* Would receive mention as sponsor of the Regional Delegates Program during
opening and closing address.
* Would receive mention as a sponsor of the Regional Delgates Program in the
Conference handbook provided to all conference attendees.
