[Linux-aus] Sponsorship of Pycon by PyCon AU

Hi all,

I saw on twitter the Chris N is proposing that PyCon AU becomes a sponsor
of Pycon (US). I'd like to +1 this, if I may.

PyCon AU has been going from strength to strength in recent years, but one
of the pillars of that is the participation of overseas presenters.
Overseas presenters contribute a huge amount to our knowledge pool and help
to make the world a smaller place. I think that sponsoring PyCon US from
Australia would help to increase the standing of PyCon AU in the eyes of
potential attendees and visitors from overseas.

I'm not sure what the dollar values involved are, and I am just trying to
comment on the value it would bring. I'm sure those who are responsible for
the financial can make the appropriate decision given the costs.

In my view, if the Python community in Australia wants to grow (and I
believe it does), it will need tight connections with overseas communities
and to participate globally. I think there are a lot of benefits to the
proposal.

I'm more than happy to discuss my views further, but I just wanted to share
my support for Chris and for this proposal.

Thanks,
-Tennessee
