Hi,
It occurs to me that there is sometimes sufficient credit within the
open source community for personal contributions to open source but less
recognition to the wider Australian community at large.
The Australian Honours system provides such recognition in the honours
rank of Member of the Order (AM), "for service in a particular
locality or field of activity or to a particular group;" and
Medal of the Order (OAM) – "for service worthy of particular
recognition.". Looking at the previous recipients I can't see why a
number of open source contributors wouldn't meet at least these two levels.
Its a long process 18 months to two years before final approval.
I'm willing to do the secretariat function (for at least several months)
of getting a sufficient application together for anyone that provides me
sufficient details to substantially start an application.
The process is rather secret from the person being nominated which is
going to be challenging (especially to fill out DoB, postal address etc)
but I'll do my best to provide discrete inquiries to do this.
