Thanks for that Brenda. Nicely batted back and with a fine couple of
references.
I have a couple of perspectives on this. One is that of a hiring manager,
and another (perhaps more recent and raw) as someone who has just jumped
careers, possibly into somewhere more Certification focused.
As a hiring manager I have looked at the study applicants have completed
and in general I have rated Universities as being more useful than Industry
certs, but more important to me is the attitude of the person to education.
A person who seeks knowledge wherever it might be found is interesting to
me. A person mostly intent on adding a pre or postscript to their name is
of lesser interest.
For myself, in my own working life, I have not seen any evidence that
membership of professional associations of any sort has ever been of any
use to anyone. Except for the administrators of the association. :)
To me, they are like Trade Unions. And equally as useless.
