I know a few of you have strong opinions on ICT in Education.
Here's an opportunity to have a say in the development of the new
Australian Curriculum.
ICT is listed as a general capability.

The site requires registration to view those pages and provide feedback.
However it's also clearly licensed under a CC-NC-SA license so I reckon
it's safe to copy them.
I've posted them as PDFs to my blog:

Please read, review and respond.
I'd like to invoke Peter Ruwoldt's words on the VIC open source edulist
(opensource at edulists.com.au)
"currently students are mainly leaving the education system under the
mis-apprehension that they need to use certain bits of software to
achieve certain functions - eg office type work requires Microsoft
Office and Graphics requires Adobe Photoshop.
Putting these limitations on our students and population is not really
acceptable or ethical. There really needs to be something factored into
this ICT statement that asks students to be aware of the fact that there
is choice as to what tool or bit of software they can use and they need
to be practiced at making these choices.
There is an opportunity to leave feedback on this site and so influence
the evolution of the Australian Curriculum."
