[Linux-aus] Uniting Linux - good or bad?

I'm sure we all remember the awful attempt at United
Linux which strayed far from the Linux ethic, but
anything from the Free Standards folk I respect. I
think a lot of people will see this and have a
knee-jerk reaction of, "....but it'll take away
developer freedom!", but they've missed the point
entirely and such a base only goes so far into the end
product anyway.

My personal hope is that the Free Standards Group
adopt and recommend that autopackage be installed as
standard when it hits 1.0 as I see the issues it's
covering as the biggest, yet most overlooked hurdle in
the *nix environment at the moment.
