Hi all,

Here's an update on networking arrangements for LCA2009. Apologies if
you receive this twice - we're trying to ensure that it gets to
everyone who may need it.

The IP range for delegates will be 169.222.8.1 - 169.222.11.254
(169.222.8.0/22) and will be provided via DHCP on both the wired and
wireless network. All conference wireless access points will
broadcast the SSID 'lca2009.linux.conf.au'.

Conference wireless is provided as an open unencrypted network -
please take any precautions necessary when transmitting data over the
wireless network. There will be wired terminals available in the
terminal room in room 213 of the Social Sciences building by Monday
afternoon.

Wireless internet access will be available from Sunday morning at
Wrest Point Casino in the Coffee Shop, Onyx Sports Bar, Pier One and
the riverside boardwalk area. We are working towards wireless
coverage in the UTAS accommodation lodges but we do not have an ETA
for this at present.

Wireless access will be available in all conference venues on campus
from Monday morning. This will include limited wireless coverage in
the public areas around the University Centre (the main conference
venue) including the area outside Lazenby's coffee shop. We hope to
have wireless access available in the TUU Refectory (cafeteria in the
union building) by Monday lunchtime.

Cabled internet is available in most rooms in the college
accommodation *if* you booked when registering for LCA2009. You will
need to provide your own data cable in University accommodation - this
should be plugged into the port labelled "PC" on the back of the phone
in your room. These phones are enabled for inter-room calls -
delegates are free to update the wiki to create a conference phone
directory if desired. Wrest Point tower rooms and Waterside rooms
should have cabled access (using the supplied data cable in your
room), however we have not been able to successfully provide internet
to the Mountain side rooms as yet.

All cabled connections should provide an IP in the conference delegate
range. If you receive a private IP address allocation, please send an
email to noc at lists.marchsouth.org telling us where you're staying,
your room number, and (if in Uni accommodation) the wall socket label.
As fixing this requires the assistance of UTAS or Wrest Point
networking staff this will be fixed during the next working day.

Speakers who require a static IP allocation should send a short email
to the noc address (listed above) providing your MAC address and we
will action these as we can. If you require it for talk preparation
please include your talk time in the request.

We are working with AARNet (the conference bandwidth sponsor) to
provide native IPv6 coverage during the conference. More information
regarding this will be made available on the wiki on Sunday evening /
Monday morning.

Your friendly network bunnies,

John Dalton & Steve Walsh
