Division

The Maintenance and Operations division is responsible for ensuring the  
quality of existing products are maintained at high standard. This  
encompasses working on known defects, as well as identifying areas for  
improvement to increase system performance/efficiency and overall customer  
experience.

Role Overview

As a Lead Linux Systems Engineer you will lead the operations and service  
delivery of a dedicated operations infrastructure team. You will maximize  
system uptime, ensure all events are responded to reliably and in a timely  
fashion, and that operational support processes are correctly followed. You  
will work closely with other teams - development, QA and customer support -  
to ensure appropriate resource, tools, technology and expert knowledge is  
reliably provided to support their activities.

Core Responsibilities
•	Communicate! Ensure everyone on the team and the stakeholders outside the  
team understand the quality goals of the project/system and how are meeting  
them throughout
•	Work with finance to maintain and audit hardware inventories  
(maintenance, warranties, hardware refresh cycles)
•	Adhere to SLA’s regarding service delivery
•	Prepare reports on service delivery, operation activities, capacity  
management
•	Provide technical direction for infrastructure activities
•	Lead by example regarding operations support, process and culture
•	Contribute to support processes and ensure followed
•	Maintain operational procedures and ensure followed
•	Provide input on various IT policies and procedures
•	Provide coaching and feedback to infrastructure team
•	Mentor and guidance for all infrastructure team
•	Manage the activities of the infrastructure team in accordance with set  
priorities
•	Ability to report on infrastructure activities
•	Promote infrastructure initiatives internally and with clients
•	Enhance and test DR systems and processes
•	Ensure system documentation is kept up to date


Essential Requirements

•	Minimum 7 years experience working in a similar environment
•	Excellent oral and written communication skills
•	Extensive experience managing and supporting linux systems
•	Ability to use initiative and think creatively
•	Ability to show leadership in technology and engineering practice
•	Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with minimal supervision
•	Excellent time management and organisation skills to aid management of  
competing priorities
•	Strong scripting skills in bash, perl or python
•	Previous experience working with a development team, preferably in an  
Agile development environment


Desirable Requirements

•	Virtualisation technologies (desirably KVM)
•	Exposure to Netapp or similar storage technology
•	Understanding of security related issues
•	Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS)
•	Previous experience managing and mentoring staff
