Production Operations Engineer

POSITION STRUCTURE

The key purpose of this role is to work in a distributed engineering team -  
designing, building and managing our rapid-scaling, fault-tolerant, complex,  
real-time, globally distributed systems.

Excellence is an ongoing process.

The role is focused on making continual improvements to our production  
operations and development systems. Key areas are:

* Automation and tools
* Shell scripting
* Performance tuning and optimisation
* Monitoring

We are looking for someone with broad systems design and administration  
knowledge, who ideally has an understanding or an idea of what OOM-killer  
would look like at scale.

We’re looking for someone that has at least four years working in an  
administrative space, e.g. tech support, desktop support, etc and at least  
six years working in a commercial operations context with Linux-based  
systems.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES - WHAT’S THE CRAIC?

This is a dynamic and varied role, which includes things like:

* Build, deployment and maintenance of new and existing environments
* Designing and maintaining highly available architectures
* Security (patch management, vulnerability scanning & monitoring)
* Uptime – designing and maintaining the systems and networking for uptime,  
resilience - architecting for failure.
* Evaluation of new cutting-edge technologies to help improve business  
processes and streamline
* Develop highly-available, scalable, robust systems
* Take ownership of problems as they occur
* On-call rota

LOCATION

You will be our first Australian colleague, with other members of the team  
split between the US, Spain and UK, and as such are free to work from  
anywhere you like. From setting up a local office, a coffee shop in Sydney,  
to the deepest outback - WiFi permitting of course. In a role like this  
location is irrelevant, and the magic happens over skype, chat & email.
