Note: 60% of time will be devoted to developing a new Linux based e-Exam  
platform and infrastructure while the remaining 40% will be on assorted  
e-learning tools projects.

The Working Environment
University of Queensland is a world top 100 ranked research intensive

The role
The successful appointee will work across the two units as part of two small  
teams. In 'ITaLI', the team is focused on developing a new e-Exam system  
based on a Live Linux-based platform and server-side components. In 'eLIPSE',  
the development team is working on tools and practices that support student  
learning and promote self-directed learning, including the optimal use of the  
University's learning systems. The appointee will also serve as a conduit for  
collaboration between ITaLI and eLIPSE.

The person
Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree in computer  
science/information technology/software engineering or comparable field with  
subsequent relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant  
experience/training.
Applicants must have demonstrated expertise in software development with and  
for Linux OS, using suitable programming languages, user interface/widget  
design and problem solving techniques as these skills with be critical in  
successfully delivering on the e-Exams project. This work, along with work on  
other e-Learning projects will be underpinned by experience using development  
methodologies, working on Linux-based technologies, using languages such as  
Bash, Python, PHP, working with security/permissions and on web based,  
database driven applications and services using open source technologies such  
as Apache and MySQL; experience in clearly documenting code and procedures  
will also be required.

Remuneration
Full-time, 2 year fixed term contract, HEW Level 6.
Salary range $69,947 - $75,374 p.a., plus employer superannuation  
contributions of up to 17% (total package $81,838 - $88,187 p.a.).

Prevailing conditions for the University's enterprise agreement will be  
followed including salary, superannuation, leave entitlements and any  
probationary period (normally 3 months for HEW posts).

The contract may be considered for extension beyond 2 years pending mutual  
agreement and further grant funding being obtained by the project leaders.
