NIWA is a leading environmental and natural resource science institute and
key provider of atmospheric, freshwater and marine research and consultancy
services in New Zealand.

A key component of NIWA's research infrastructure is the High Performance
Computing Facility (HPCF) (http://www.niwa.co.nz/our-services/hpcf), which is
used to support research activities in climate, chemistry climate, weather,
river flood, sea state, ocean, sea-level, and inundation modelling and
forecasting, as well as an operational environmental forecasting system
(EcoConnect). Within the National eScience Infrastructure
(https://www.nesi.org.nz/) the system also supports the High Performance
Computing (HPC) requirements of researchers within the national research
community.

We are seeking a Systems Engineer for our HPCF Operations Group, part of the
NeSI (national) Platforms Service. In this role you will potentially be
involved in the management of all NeSI High Performance Computers, and
provide support to operational and science users on the systems. There is an
opportunity to work on a wide range of technical tasks within project teams
that include staff from all NeSI HPC sites.

You will have a tertiary qualification in computer science and/or other
sciences, or equivalent work experience. You will have experience in
operating a Linux/Unix HPC service, datacentre, or cloud computing
environment. You will have familiarity with provisioning systems,
configuration and change management, parallel file systems, data management,
and system integration services. Experience with AIX, GPFS, xCAT, TSM,
Puppet, SAN, networking, and cloud computing infrastructures would be
advantageous. Other desirable skills include experience with resource
managers and schedulers, system tuning, virtualization (vmware/KVM), software
containers (docker), compilers and parallel libraries.

You will have strong interpersonal skills, an ability to work in a team
environment and be well-organised and solution-oriented.

NIWA offers competitive remuneration and benefits, an attractive waterfront
location with free parking and the opportunity to work in a collaborative,
national, and professional team.
