The CSIRO ICT Centre is building a role for Australia as a global ICT innovator by delivering leading-edge Information and Communication Technology solutions for industry and society. The Centre has over 250 researchers across Australia working on a wide range of ICT technologies and application areas.

The Search and Delivery project of the CSIRO ICT Centre seeks to recruit a highly capable, motivated, and experienced person to carry out commercialisation of software research. The team in which you will work is geographically dispersed over two locations, and you must be capable of accommodating this work environment. It also consists of a mix of researchers and software engineers, plus a floating set of students and interns. You should be a confident communicator, capable of working within loosely set guidelines, and able to set and achieve software objectives on both quality and timeliness for yourself and the group.

The group spans research expertise in information retrieval, computational linguistics, and multimedia. We have been responsible for delivering commercial success such as the Funnelback Search Engine and open source platforms such as Annodex.

You will bring strong capabilities in programming and the commercialisation of software research. A demonstrated understanding of, and preferably experience in, the research process and how that affects commercialisation activities is required. Originality and creativity in your software practice is needed, as many of the problems being addressed have not been solved previously. Conversely, an ability to carry out investigation and selection of appropriate algorithms from the research literature is also required.
