Ruby Programmer, Full Time
Our highly innovative company is seeking a full time developer to work on our Ruby and Ruby on Rails projects. The candidate is expected to have an in-depth understanding of the language, good experience with the framework, and as well general GNU/Linux skills, which is likely to be your work environment.
If you:
have finished at least 2 personal projects, and ideally one commercial project using Rails;
know Ruby very well, to the point where you can write fully functional, resources savvy software using it. Note that this is not a Rails-only position;
can write portable HTML (not necessarily valid, but one that works across most browsers) without relying on authoring IDEs. You're not expected to be a designer, but you will need an understanding on how to write intelligent markup;
know when to use a database, and when not to. Same logic applies to AJAX;
understand the Rails Javascript helpers. You like them, but you're comfortable in writing tweaks or even your own methods;
then you're the sort of person we're looking for. :-)
Other skills that would be a plus:
some experience with Python, Perl, PHP, or C. Not restricted to those. More in-depth experience with one in particular counts better than less experience with many.
knowledge of web services, like how they work, and how to make use of popular protocols like SOAP and REST.
understanding of HTTP. It's not just GET and POST you see... =)
database modelling.
Rails deployment strategies and tools.
The company has many ongoing projects based on different technologies and programming languages. You will be interacting with many approaches to similar problems, so you're expected to interact well with the team and the environment, helping it to progress further and faster.
