Linux & Solaris Specialist, Contract
The purpose of this position is to deliver effective technology guidance and implementation for the UNIX/Linux (particular emphasis on Linux) environment and maintain high levels of UNIX/Linux availability.Main responsibilities are:<Provide technical support for UNIX/Linux and fix problems, Track all problems according to Clients policy and procedures (Problem management and change control through Remedy - Quest system,Develop and maintain installation, configuration and maintenance policies and standards, Provide consultancy to other technical and project teams in regard to technical issues pertaining to the UNIX/Linux environment, Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain the environment, Perform UNIX/Linux tasks on an ongoing basis, Implementation of ongoing management and automation within the production environment, Ensure DR UNIX/Linux environments are operational and correct at all times, Involvement in DR simulations as required,System logging and reporting<BR><BR>Skills and experience:<BR><BR>
<LI>SUN Solaris 2.5.1,2.6,7,8,9, Vmware ESX Server 2.1, Redhat Linux Advanced server 2.1,3.0,Tertiary qualification (Bachelor Degree level) in engineering or computer science or equivalent experience, Minimum 5 years experience implementing and managing large scale Solaris UNIX and/or Linux deployments,Must have experience in both Redhat Linux and Solaris UNIX,Experience managing Linux/Solaris server based projects, such as server capacity planning, new Linux/Solaris infrastructure design/build-out/deployments, improve Linux/Solaris server performance and availability, implement new server monitoring and tuning technologies and complex troubleshooting and problem resolution of major server issues.,Experience building large High Availability Linux servers from scratch, Experience with Versioning Control Systems (such as Satellite
