I'm not sure if you are trying to install from knoppix or just copy
stuff across. (that is feasible but you will need to do some clever
stuff with the bootloader (grub or lilo) and you kernel image ...

Winton, mate cobber digger buddy mate :)
If you want to install debian I suggest you give the ubuntu distro a try
or use a real debian installer.(which is not pretty but very
comprehensive)

Knoppix is very cool but it's primary purpose is as a live cd not a
comprehensive installer. The fact that you are in the state your in is
living proof ...


The unbuntu installer should be ok. They also have a live CD which you
should try as well. 
BTW load the Ubuntu live cd under windows the autorun will give you the
opportunity to install some cool software for windows. :)
