[Cbsupport] Is 'free' Audacity software any good?

Hi Kylie, Hi Computer Bank,

I'm a grateful former recipient of a CB computer who now owns a new PC. 
There is a Sound Editing Software system, Audacity: 
<audacity.source.forge.net> that I found just by Googling. It is open 
source, free to download, and seems to have all the features I need. It is 
Linux, Mac and Windows compatible. Does anybody have any experience of it? 
How can I tell if my hardware is up to it, and the software REALLY free? It 
seems too good to be true.
