[Linux-aus] FW: Two entertaining & informative videos on the future of technology. Broadcast Flag, DMCA, Trusted Computing and Open software.

 Hi,
These are a couple of entertaining & informative video clips:
1) on how big media companies are trying to limit your freedom to use
and access any content they produce, control your PC and subvert your
freedoms.
2) how open software contributes to and is part of a free society

This is not just for IT geeks - these things affect everyone.

Cory Doctorow, co-editor of popular blog BoingBoing, EFF Fellow, and
award-winning science fiction author, discusses the circular nature of
advancement and restriction in visual art, literature, radio,
television, and music. Learn about digital rights management
technologies like Broadcast Flag, DMCA, Trusted Computing, and the
companies we know and love who are behind this crippleware. Doctorow
gleefully illustrates how they threaten consumer choice and have
throughout history, and what you can--and should--do about it.

Eben Moglen issues a call-to-action to keep freedom safe in a time when
innovation is threatened.

Eben Moglen, the Founding Director of the Software Freedom Law Center
and a professor of law at Columbia Law School, issues a call-to-action
to keep freedom safe in a time when innovation is threatened. Class is
in session as Moglen gives us an insightful history lesson,
incorporating Ralph Waldo Emerson and the concept of Yankee ingenuity to
illustrate the importance of the open source revolution. We tip our
cowboy hats to Mr. Moglen, because this is one helluva smart guy.

Hope people find them as interesting (and fun) as I did.
None of it is particularly new ground but it is presented well.

Regards Anthony.
