I'd start with http://creativecommons.org/ and http://opensource.org/

For Australian legal issues, try agimo, e.g. 
http://www.agimo.gov.au/_sourceit/sourceit/oss/legal_context

You might also try http://www.austlii.edu.au/
but I admit a little searching didn't get me much.
