Since December is always a crazy month I'd like to suggest we end the year with a dinner somewhere on or about the 15th December. Tickl'd Rib on Elizabeth St perhaps? (Although it'd not a vegetarian friendly option). -- -- Scott Bragg From taslug at bleeter.id.au Mon Nov 7 11:53:40 2016 From: taslug at bleeter.id.au (Peter Lawler) Date: Mon, 7 Nov 2016 11:53:40 +1100 Subject: [Taslug] No Hobart meeting this month In-Reply-To: <72e8c1541d6b5e1e4462b0ca68578e0d@scriptforge.org> References: <72e8c1541d6b5e1e4462b0ca68578e0d@scriptforge.org> Message-ID: On 07/11/16 10:04, Scott Bragg wrote: > Hi everyone, > > Unfortunately due to life and some bizarre work committments I'm not > going to be organising a meetup in Hobart this month. > > Since December is always a crazy month I'd like to suggest we end the > year with a dinner somewhere on or about the 15th December. > > Tickl'd Rib on Elizabeth St perhaps? The week nights tends to get crazy busy for many people between work and family commitments and the weekend before Christmas is also usually crazy. A weekend casual feed may be more easily doable for many and people can come and go as they please and we just have a general ketchup (hah get it okay I'll get my coat now...) Pete. If you've ever wanted to learn some more things about emacs or vi editors or have a handy bash pocket reference the price is definitely worth it. They come in mobi, epub and PDF formats. https://www.humblebundle.com/books/unix-book-bundle It's a pay what you want type deal, with part of your purchase going to a charity, in this case the Electronic Frontiers Foundation. -- -- Scott Bragg From pjb at pjb.com.au Tue Nov 8 13:18:44 2016 From: pjb at pjb.com.au (Peter Billam) Date: Tue, 08 Nov 2016 02:18:44 -0000 Subject: [Taslug] No Hobart meeting this month In-Reply-To: References: <72e8c1541d6b5e1e4462b0ca68578e0d@scriptforge.org> Message-ID: Greetings all, On 07/11/16 10:04, Scott Bragg wrote: > I'd like to suggest we end the year with a dinner somewhere on or about > the 15th December. From my own POV, I'd prefer something in town like Scott suggests, perhaps even Capital Restaurant (364 Elizabeth St N.Hob) ? even though it doesn't really offer that authentic chewing-raw-meat experience ... We?re looking for volunteers to help make linux.conf.au 2017 a huge success! If you?ve volunteered before and just want to apply, all the details are at https://linux.conf.au/attend/volunteer -- for everyone else, read on! We?re just over 50 days from the start of the conference, but we can?t run the conference on our own. We need help to check attendees in when they arrive, to operate AV equipment such as audio gear and cameras, to direct people around the venue, ensuring our rooms run to schedule, as well as setting up and packing down the conference. Anyone who has been a volunteer before will tell you that it?s an extremely busy but worthwhile time. It?s rewarding to know that you?ve helped everybody at the conference to get the most out of it. There's nothing quite like knowing that you've made a difference. You don't just get to meet the delegates and speakers, you get to know many of them while helping them as well. You get a unique opportunity to get behind the scenes and close to the action. You can forge new relationships with amazing, interesting, wonderful people you might not ever get the chance to meet any other way. In return for your help we'll provide you with morning and afternoon tea, lunch, and a clean t-shirt each day, and if you ask nicely we might even write you a letter of reference at the end of the week. Depending on the number of volunteers and workload, we'll also try our best to schedule things to let volunteers go to their favourite talks. For more information, please visit https://linux.conf.au/attend/volunteer -- we have full details of what we need from our volunteers. We review and approve applications regularly. -- --Christopher Neugebauer Jabber: chrisjrn at gmail.com -- IRC: chrisjrn on irc.freenode.net -- WWW: http://chrisjrn.com -- Twitter: @chrisjrn From taslug at bleeter.id.au Sun Nov 27 19:33:24 2016 From: taslug at bleeter.id.au (Peter Lawler) Date: Sun, 27 Nov 2016 19:33:24 +1100 Subject: [Taslug] Private End of Year BBQ Message-ID: <296d1bfe-a53b-c22d-7e7f-c4851990b4ea@bleeter.id.au> Hi all, I'm having an end of year BBQ on the afternoon of 11th of December at Weston Park in Austin's Ferry[1] (starting around midday... some people have to work on Monday morning others worked Saturday night... picking a time at this time of year is mad.) All TasLug members and their family members are most welcome to come along. Personally, I'd appreciate it if you would consider this list instead of other birthday/Christmas/New Years gifts but what you want to do is up to you, really... http://pl.id.au/the_annual_miscellany.html I'd really appreciate an RSVP at your earliest, particularly from the 'yes' and 'maybe' people with numbers. I do have a backup plan should the weather go against us, however this'll be kept private amongst those who intend to attend for now. Just because... well, it's Austin's Ferry you know? Pete. [1] Because it' the best map in the world, here's where the public toilets are in relation to the park... https://toiletmap.gov.au/Toilet/34709
