It would better frame things like trying to grow social media followings and attract new members. While I'm sure you'll get some hate with this name (IE "LA doesn't need a PR committee") but I'm confident those people will hate on anything and I think it will be positive for more "mainstream" members. This name even bakes in a mandate to be proactive in growing and actively doing new things while "Media and Communications" is a lot more passive. It's your subcommittee and people doing the work get to make the decisions, so feel free to ignore me. Just my back seat driving, 2cents :-) Tim 'mithro' Ansell PS At some point (probably towards the end of LCA2017) I would like to chat about the dead A/V subcommittee... Because I'd suggest keeping an active media@ at the very least; ease of access, historical use, etc. As for the wordy words, I don't have anything better than a TLDR version: We feel the renaming of the subcommittee better encompasses what the team does: engaging with the community and advertising Linux Australia events on social media, and (something else here) The function and the composition of the subcommittee won't change, just the listman address, and the name of the group. Hope this helps, Katie. That kinda sucks, but it leaves us with a couple of options: - Delete the existing media list, create a new list (publicity-outreach) and get Admin Team to redirect media at linux.og.au to publicity-outreach at linux.org.au - Leave the existing media list in place, but create a new list for publicity-outreach. In this case, Nuclide https://github.com/facebook/nuclide/blob/master/LICENSE Now, I know that the @linuxaustralia account should probably be doing more than just promoting LA events, and with the discussion about renaming media to publicity-and-outreach, this makes sense. But I think that there's issues with what we are putting out under the LA brand as "OK". I know this is getting a bit meta, but I also think that the use of the @linuxaustralia account should become in-line with how the LA community decides the organisation should go as a result of the next election. As for the above tweet, I see that it's already been retweeted from the @linuxaustralia account itself, but I'm not sure if it should be removed, or not. I also have the credentials to this account, but I have not made any posts from it because I'm not sure how it should be used, and I don't want to do anything on there without approval from at least one other Media person. But I don't think that scales to the entire use of the account. - Katie -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
