[LCP] several libc.so's on my linux

Hi all,
I see several libc 's on my System what is the difference between them ? and
i also see that their foot prints vary except for the last two . can some
one elaborate me on this ?
-desktop:~$ ls /usr/lib/libc.so -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 238 2008-04-05 04:56 /usr/lib/libc.so
-desktop:~$ ls /lib/libc.so* -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2008-08-28 20:27 /lib/libc.so.6 -> libc-2.7.so
-desktop:~$ ls /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2008-08-28 20:27 /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 ->
libc-2.7.so
