He clearly didn't know that he was asking a "Basic pointer question". And
even if he did, what's so wrong with beginners asking questions here? Is he
wasting your bandwidth? Are you using a 9600 baud modem or something?

Clearly, from this remark and from your question, your next task
is to buy or borrow an introductory book on C and to sit down
with it and start reading on page 1, working your way through
the book and doing every exercise as you go. By the time you
get to the part that covers pointers, you'll have your answer.
This will probably involve reading about a third of your book,
but you should not stop there.
If you come up against stuff in the book that you really can't
understand (and if you have read all the book up to that point)
come back here with your questions. We can't teach you C from
scratch here.
