Yes, have a look at user mode linux (UML). It allows you to run a Linux
kernel in userland, very nice for debugging virtual memory or
filesystems.
UML is available at http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/ , and it's
also integrated in Alan Cox's kernel patches (see
http://www.kernelnewbies.org/faq/ for more information about the -ac
patches).
