One additional suggestion to the excellent threads here - I wonder if we 
could wrap this up in some sort of Australian / Australasian Open Source 
Awards programme? From memory, the good folx in Aotearoa/New Zealand 
used to run the NZOSS Open Source Awards but not sure if that is still 
running.

Is there an appetite for something perhaps wider in scope? Also very 
aware of the lack of volunteer capacity across the board in LA / events 
/ etc.
