Happy New Year! There are now less than three weeks to go until linux.conf.au 2021. Gulp! Since the conference is running online with no need for travel or accommodation costs, we hope this makes it easier for more people to attend. Yet, we know 2020 was a challenge for many people financially; and some may still struggle to find the means to join us. So we have some good news! Thanks to the support of our Outreach and Inclusion sponsor, Arm, we have funds set aside to provide financial assistance to linux.conf.au attendees who might need it. This program is part of our outreach and inclusion efforts for linux.conf.au. To find out more about our financial assistance and how to apply, read our assistance page at https://linux.conf.au/attend/assistance/. As much as anything I'm interested to know how many people use RSS/Planets for keeping tabs on things. Karl. In this case the site was driven by software which was no longer maintainable for various reasons. Closing the site was seen to be the most appropriate solution to the problem given the changed dynamics of the web. There was more to it than simply finding someone else to maintain the site. As Russell Coker noted, he has put up a replacement aggregator which is undoubtedly more maintainable than the old site. Hopefully this will prove a useful resource for those who still utilise RSS/Planets. > Hopefully when the old URL points to my site I'll get a few more. A link to Russell's aggregator will soon appear on the old planet landing page, along with any other similar resources offered by community members. When LA Council discussed this last week it was felt that a link was the most appropriate approach for now. This allows the farewell text to remain visible and also makes clear that the resources being linked to are being run by community members. As the situation settles it may prove appropriate to revisit this and perhaps consider an automatic URL redirect in future.
