Dear GovHack and Linux Australia colleagues and friends,

We'd like to thank you all for your wonderful support of GovHack -
you’ve helped us grow over the years to become one of the biggest annual
government open data competitions in the world. For 2016 we hit a record
number of participants, locations, data sets and projects (see our
achievements in our GovHack 2016 Review

As GovHack has grown it has helped drive the release of open data by
governments across Australia and New Zealand and demonstrated the
potential of open data to benefit the community as witnessed by the
amazing apps, websites, augmented and virtual reality projects that
continue to push the boundaries of open data each year.

GovHack and Linux Australia are proud to announce that GovHack's current
scale, influence and strength of support make 2017 the right year to
establish GovHack as an independent organisation whilst continuing to
champion our shared spirit of openness, awesomeness and respect.

Open source and open data are more important than ever, yet they mean
nothing without your involvement, your ingenuity, your brilliance –
that’s why both GovHack and Linux Australia are determined to keep
growing to enable more people to play a part of our respective communities.

GovHack would like to thank Linux Australia for its sensational support
as an auspicing body in 2016 and looks forward to working closely
together in the future to continue to promote the tremendous benefits of
open source and open data for Australia, New Zealand and the entire

GovHack and Linux Australia
