I'm advising someone who's running a (non-FOSS) conference.  I'd like to know 
how long before a conference starts the delegates' mailing list should be 
established.  My recollection is that LCA does this well, how long before an 
LCA is the mailing list started?

For running a conference mailing list, is there any down-side to using 
Google's free mailing list service?
