Call for Participation: Linux.conf.au 2009 Gaming Miniconf
==========================================================

The Open Source Gaming and Game Development Miniconf is now in its third
year, having run with considerable success at Linux.conf.au Sydney 2007
and Melbourne 2008. As part of the Linux.conf.au conference to be held
in Hobart, Australia in January 2009 we will be holding a 2 day mini
conference about Free and Open Source gaming and game development.

Please see our website at http://games.sericyb.com.au/ for details and
updates.

The organisers of the 2009 Gaming Miniconf would like to invite you to
participate by presenting a paper, a talk, a demonstration of your
software, hardware or cool hack, hosting or participating in a panel
discussion, showing off your favourite FOSS game or just coming along to
share the fun!

We would like to invite talks and demonstrations on any and all of the
following aspects of the interface between FOSS/Linux and gaming:

* Developing games using open source tools including web-based
multiplayer games, the use of open source languages in game development,
open content creation tools in game development and open source game
toolkits

* Teaching game development using FOSS methodologies and/or tools

* Open game hardware such as the GP2X, the Pandora and the Open Game
Console Consortium

* Linux and other FOSS running on proprietary game console hardware
including development platforms such as devkitPro

* Open source games on mobiles and PCs including those at The Linux Game
Tome

* Proprietary games that offer native Linux ports

* Running proprietary games on open source platforms using emulation or
open implementations of proprietary APIs such as Wine, Cedega, CrossOver
Games and others

* Legal issues affecting FOSS gamers and game developers such as
copyright, game ratings and censorship of games

We have openings for:

* 2 hour tutorials
* 50 minute tutorials, panel sessions and presentations
* 25 minute presentations
* 5 and 10 minute "lightning talks"

Presentations include 5 minutes of question time at the end and panel
sessions include 10 minutes of background on the topic at the beginning.
 Lightning talks can't use slides or anything else which requires setup,
you just get up and talk.

If you would like to present, please email <games at sericyb.com.au> with
information about yourself and a short description of your talk. The
more information you include the better! To suggest a panel session,
send an email with information about what you want the panel to be about
and who you think should be on it (which may include yourself). To give
a lightning talk just put your name down on the sign up list at the
Miniconf. You do not need to propose the session beforehand!

Please note that in order to give a presentation or attend the miniconf
you must be signed up for the main Linux.conf.au conference. Presenting
at the Miniconf does not entitle you to discounted or free registration
at the main conference nor priority with registration.
