[Linux-aus] In the news today

hey Marco,

glad you brought this up =)

there's a few locations around secondlife where the LCA08 penguin is already
out and about and visible from the maps =)

Donna and her partner both have secondlife accounts, and doing something for
LCA08 is definitely under discussion. The Australian Open build by IBM
mentioned briefly within that article was actually built by two of the
people on the organising committee (or flying monkeys) for LCA08 - so it's
looking strongly as if we may have something running there (please, Donna,
please!!). We certainly have the enthusiasm, if not the time!

I'd personally like to see something bigger than LCA - I for one would be
very excited to see Linux Australia gain a presence within secondlife.

If you're keen on helping out or pushing some ideas for this, please let me
know. We're keen on doing what we can to get a strong open source presence
in there - should be easier now that the client has been GPLd, and hopefully
easier again if/when they GPL the server (as they claim they want to).

btw - thx for the warnings re. the Rome district - think i'll avoid it =)

Regards,
Kelly
