Hi All,

While looking for the above article online I came across this story instead:

"Australians in virtual world stampede"
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2007/01/30/1169919283914.html

Last night when exploring the lovely "Rome" district in second Life I was
horrified to discover that most of the public places were covered with
advertising for the immanent MS Vista release. Then upon arriving in the
main square I was further dismayed to see that MS had a huge stage set up
with all kinds of eye candy ready for the big launch.

A quick search for Linux & FOSS related material in SL didn't reveal much.

Would it just be a 'knee jerk' reaction to set up an LA / linux.conf.au
presence, or are we missing an important opportunity to evangelise and
provide a counter argument to the Vista hype?

Granted the Linux Second Life client is in early development, but it's
certainly usable in my experience.

Given that it need not cost us any significant funds, but some time and
skill of our community, should we make an effort to be heard in Second
Life, and soon?

Cheers,
Marco
