ah, you see here in lies the a flaw with the whole "seek forgiveness and 
not permission thing". With the hat, the blame can be shifted ie - "I 
had no part in the hat debacle, I said not to do it, but you know what 
Pia gets like when she sets her mind to disemboweling someone....". With 
the signature, the blame is his alone.
